Fuzzy!

Assembled in the mighty Miniatures Hall of the Origins Game Fair, a small group of exhausted but enthusiastic players came together once more for the 7th Annual Origins HOTT Tournament.

Veterans all, winners from previous Origins lined up to vie once again for fantastic prizes and the rulership of the Convention Center.

While normally I would have played in the tournament as the "odd man", Steve Sattler's unfortunately inabiltiy to attend left me with the duty of running the tournament alone. Given that I had completely exhausted myself running other games at the convention, I opted to give the lowest scoring player each round a "bye" so as to keep things simple.

Tournament Format
Berkeley HOTT (Inverted)
Army Size Scale Round Length
24 AP's 15mm 60 minutes
  • Four rounds, 1 hour per round
  • 3 Points for a win, 1 for a tie
  • Ranking by Points, AP's lost as tie-breaker, then by Generals taken
  • Proposed 2.1 Shooter/Warband movement rules, Sneaker friction kills and break-away
How can they cut the power, man?

The Winner Declared!

In the end, a brand new champion of the HOTT Open tournament was crowned, Mr. Mike Demana. He brought home a beautifully painted skeleton army (of his own doing, in fact, as I had commissioned him to paint the prize army this year.)

The lovely Jenny Torbett took home a full unpainted prize army from Splintered Light Miniatures (www.splinteredlightminis.com), fantastic Dark Elves from their new casting lines. Again, David McBride has our heartfelt thanks for all his prize support through the years, and it was a great time seeing him at the convention, as always.

By general consensus of those in attendance, it was decided that next year we'll be moving the HOTT Wax competition from the chilly winter months to a new home at the Origins Game Fair, replacing the GLADBAG invitational DBA tournament. The dwindling numbers and general dominance of DBA in the schedule seem to warrant it, and at least scheduling should be easier.

Keep a watch out for more news of shuffling in the schedules, and check out the new lines of figures at Splintered Light, as their Druid's Children has expanded to contain some absolutely wonderful new castings.
