The Candyman Cometh!

Mirth, merriment, and sugary goodness invaded Symmes Township, OH this Saturday, as competitors turned out for the third annual HordesParty at the HMGS Warparty convention.

A total of 10 old friends and fresh faces alike came together to crash their armies and vie for supremacy. Led by Dave Welch's new and innovatively edible Candy Corps, several fantastic new armies as well as a host of veteran offerings piled together and ran the gauntlet.

The Warband and Warparty tournaments are a great opportunity for people to get together and play Hordes of the Things in a reduced-competition environment. The fluid "Rolling Thunder" tournament format, used for both the DBA and HOTT tournaments, means people rarely sit still for very long. Most contestants ended up playing between four and six full rounds, against a wide variety of opponentst.

The format seems to be earning a respectable following, and the spirit of cameraderie and good times were apparent to all.

To the Victor go the Spoils!

As always, a huge thanks goes out to everyone who turned out. Everyone walked away with a little something from the Prize Vault, but the big winner of the day was Steve Smith. Steve, a long-time DBA veteran, had taken his first crack at Hordes of the Things, but picked up the differences quickly and came away with a victory from his final round.

Congratulations also go out to both Mike Stelzer and Mike Demana who once again came away with 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.

Finally, thanks to everyone responsible for running, attending, and supporting the Warparty convention. Though small, it's a wonderful gathering of players with a fun and entertaining set of games, and a fantastic way to spend a beautiful Saturday in Cincinnati.

As I've said before, so long as there's a place to have it and people to play it, I'm more than happy to run the HOTT tournament, and Warparty is an excellent venue for such a light-hearted play format.
