Oh no, the Dragon! Flee for your lives!

For the first time in its history, the flagship HMGS convention - Advance the Colors - saw fit to host the Horde of the Things in all their unbridled fury. The horns of battle were sounded (and worn, for that matter), and the thunder of conflict echoed throughout the hall.

Since most everyone at Advance the Colors had something to do at some portion of Saturday night, the casual Rolling Thunder format seemed ideal for the event. This allowed people to get anywhere from 2-5 games in and yet still afforded the freedom to play or run other games at the convention.

The majority of players were there for 3 or more games to be eligible for prizes, but even those who just stopped by had a good time. The event saw several brand new players to HOTT, several old veterans with brand new armies, and several of the fantastic looking armies from conventions past come back for a return visit. With 20 participants total, it's clear that ATC is a prime environment for the clash of fantastic combat.

Who wouldn't want one of these for a pet?

A huge-and-hearty congratulations goes out to Rich Baier of Pittsburgh (the infamous "dicemanrick"), whose went undefeated in four rounds to sweep the field and claim the Grand Prize. It's always good to see the new faces in the HOTT winner's circle.

A special, personal thanks goes out to Eric Luczaj, whose gallant offer to run the event (and generous donation of prizes) allowed your humble narrator to actually get a chance to compete for once. Thanks again, Eric, for your hard work and dedication to the cause!

The next major HOTT event in our area will likely be HOTT Wax '08, though a location and time has not been fixed for the event as yet. Keep tuned to your local channels for more information, as the 36-point extravaganza will be held sometime in January, just right around the corner!
